Using The Sammy Screw Threaded Rod Hanger}

Submitted by: Jeffrey Richard

The Sammy Screw has been in use by many contractors for some years now, but still many have not seen the product or the benefit they can offer.

What is a Sammy Screw? A Sammy Screw is basically a screw with a rod coupler attached to it making it a one piece threaded rod hanger. The Sammy Screw threaded rod hanger comes in a variety of different configurations to accomadate most any application.

To install a Sammy Screw threaded rod hanger, you will need a cordless drill, and a Sammy Screw driver. The most common driver does most of the Sammy Screws, however, if you are using a Sammy Screw junior, or a sidewinder, you will need a different driver. If you are using a Sammy Screw for concrete, you will also need a hammer drill bit to pre drill the hole in the concrete. You may want to consider a Lagmater Plus extension pole if you want to install a Sammy Screw into wood or steel from the floor. If you are using the Sammy Express anchor mentioned below, you will need the Sammy XPIT install tool. They run around $90 but it will save you that over and over again.

If you are hanging threaded rod from a wood beam or joist, the Sammy Screw GST series will work for you. This is basically a lag bolt with the threaded rod hanger or coupler built on to it. They come in a variety of lenghts to accomidate any drywall you may have to go through.

The Sammy Screw DST threaded rod hanger has a self drill screw attached to the threaded rod hanger. Several different lenghts are available along with different types of tips depending on how thick of metal you would like to fasten to.

If you need to fasten to concrete, the CST Sammy Screw threaded rod hanger will work well. As with any type of concrete screw you will need to pre drill the concrete.

One of my favorite Sammy Screws is the Sammy Express. The Sammy Express is designed to fasten to the metal roof deck. The Sammy Express anchor acutually collapses behind the metal deck offering tremendous holding power and saving tons of time. The only drawback to the Sammy Express anchor is the cost and the special tool required to install it. But, time is money, the Sammy Express anchor will save you alot of time.

Most of the Sammy Screws described above are available to accept 1/4″ to 1/2″ threaded rod. Most styles are also available in a side winder version. These Sammy Screw threaded rod hangers allow you to mount the threaed rod at a 90 degree angle to the anchor.

You can also install the Sammy Screw into wood and steel for the floor with the Lagmaster Plus tool. The Lagmaste plus is a extension pole that goes into the end of a cordless drill. Just insert the Sammy Screw threaed rod hanger with a length of threaded rod attached down the center of the Lagmaster Plus and drill into the ceiling. You can see a demo video at www.constructionfastening.com

If you have never tried the Sammy Screw threaed rod anchor, give them a try. They will definetely save you time, thus money on any install.

US dog attack owner charged with involuntary manslaughter

Friday, March 25, 2005A Spotsylvania County woman, whose three dogs allegedly attacked and killed her elderly neighbor, was freed Wednesday by posting a $10,000 bond. Dianna Large, 36, received one felony charge of involuntary manslaughter and three misdemeanor charges in an indictment issued last week.

In her first appearance before a judge, she answered Circuit Court Judge William H. Ledbetter questions with simple “Yes sir.” and “No sir.” responses. The short hearing, held Thursday, formalized the charges against her. The involuntary manslaughter charge, a first in the severity of punishment being sought on a dog owner in the Virginan state of USA, carries a maximum penalty of 10 years.

State procecutor Wiliam Neely said that Large knowingly let her three Pit Bull dogs run free, and that an animal control agency person had warned her to keep them under better control. She also a violated a county ordinance requiring owners of dangerous dogs to post a warning sign to visitors. The prosecution also noted that none of the three male dogs were neutered.

The Animal Control Department of Virginia maintains a dangerous dog registry. It contains a list of owners whose dogs are deemed dangerous to society. The link to the registry was moved to a more prominent position on the county web page following the attack.

Filipchenko, registered on the New York City Campaign Finance Board as Vitaly A. Filipchenko, is the first Russian candidate for New York City mayor, being born in Tomsk, Siberia in 1973, according to news agency Sputnik. He has since naturalised as a United States citizen. According to the web site, Filipchenko has been educated in road construction and maintenance and owns a moving services company; he describes himself on his web site as a “small business owner”. On his web site’s platform page, he says that “[m]y English may not be perfect – but my platform is.”

Incumbent Democrat mayor Bill de Blasio, who won re-election in the 2017 New York City mayoral election by 66.5%, cannot run for a third term under term limits. As of April 28, 22 candidates are currently running, the majority of whom are also Democrats. Somali pirates threaten to kill British hostages in days

Saturday, January 23, 2010

A middle-aged British couple who have been held hostage by Somali pirates for more than three months said on Friday, in a telephone interview with ITN, that their captors have threatened to kill one or both of them if a government ransom is not received “within four or five days.”

Paul and Rachel Chandler disappeared on October 23, 2009, while in the Gulf of Aden off the coast of Somalia while en route from the Seychelles to Tanzania. Their 38-foot yacht, the Lynn Rival, was later found abandoned. Days later, pirates confirmed they were in fact holding the couple hostage within Somalia’s borders.

A spokeswoman for the British Foreign Office told media in a statement on Friday that the government’s policy was to not “make or facilitate concessions to hostage-takers.” She added, the Office is, however, still closely “monitoring the situation” and “doing everything it can” to secure the couple’s safe release.

The Chandlers’ captors have demanded a ransom payment of US$7 million (£4.3 million), but the British government has refused to pay it, in line with their policy.

On Friday, the pirates granted the Chandlers separate telephone interviews with UK-based media outlet ITN. According to the interviews, the couple pleaded for help and alleged that they have been “physically attacked,” separated and “treated as a captive animal” in solitary confinement at the hands of their captors.

Rachel Chandler told ITN that “dying would actually be an easy way out” and how she wanted to see her husband “at least once before we die.”

The validity of these threats are not known. According to The Hindu, pirates often make empty threats of execution, but rarely harm the captives.

Piracy is especially rife in the waters near Somalia, a nation, due to an ongoing civil war, that has not had a functioning government in place since 1991. Islamic extremist groups, such as al-Shabaab, as well as various warlords and pirate gangs control most of the nation. The only exception is the besieged capital of Mogadishu, which is protected primarily by UN peace-keepers and other foreign troops.

According to the International Maritime Bureau, there were 406 reported pirate attacks worldwide in 2009, compared to approximately 290 the year before. During both years, more than 50% of these incidents occurred off the coast of the Horn of Africa.

Setting Up A Solid Medical Malpractice Claim

By Carla C. Ballatan

People usually look up to doctors and nurses because of the reputation they cultivated of alleviating the pain and suffering of their patients. Doctors and nurses are guided by medical procedures developed by international experts and specialists. They are own competence develop through experience as they mature in their profession.

Alas, these medical practitioners are but human, imperfect and erring. Given the tremendous trust people give them, however, once something goes wrong in their execution of medical procedures and their patient suffers from it, it opens a controversial issue of medical malpractice.

Many people fall to the wrong impression that to sue a certain doctor with medical malpractice charges is quite easy. In fact, medical malpractice cases are extremely tough to win.

Not all medical injuries can be considered as medical malpractice, thus medical malpractice claims is not applicable for such cases. Moreover, it also does not provide basis for a medical malpractice lawsuit claim. In proving malpractice or establishing the liability of a health care provider, expert medical malpractice testimony is needed. This testimony’s basic content is that the health care provider a person is suing has committed a grievous wrong no reasonable health care provider would do, and resulted to injury and death. Once liability is established, the victim or his/her family claims for medical malpractice damages.

Another thing that makes this kind of claim a tough case is that there is a statute of limitations or statutory period in filing the lawsuit by a malpractice lawyer. Each state has its own established medical malpractice law for such cases.

The three main issues in determining if a case of medical malpractice is worth pursuing are liability, damages and responsible person to pay such damages. In determining if a health care provider is liable or legally responsible for the injuries sustained by the patient, negligence must be established.

To determine this, the accepted standard of care on a certain area must be known and whether or not the standard was followed. If it turned out that the standard of care was not followed, the next step is to determine if the cause of injury is because of such non-compliance to standards.

Meanwhile, in determining negligence, a health care provider may misdiagnose an illness or injury, fail to treat it properly, give the wrong medication and fail to give thorough explanation to a patient about the risk of a certain procedure or other alternative treatments to avail of. Furthermore, there must be concrete evidence that a doctor’s negligence was indeed the cause of injury or worsening of condition.

Once liability is established, the patient victim is entitled to claim for damages. This may be in the form of compensation for the medical bills already incurred and still to be paid, the loss of present and / or future income and the physical and psychological pain and suffering felt by the victim.

In a medical malpractice claim, the damages vary on each individual case. It usually depends on how the injury or death caused by malpractice affected the persons earning potential and quality of life.

There is also a statute of limitations or a deadline in filing a claim, which is typically two years. It is important to note this down since once a claim did not meet the statute of limitations, the claimant loses his or her right to damages, even if liability can be proven.

Before launching medical malpractice claims, make sure that there is a fighting chance in winning the case. These kinds of claims are usually settled less often compared to other cases. One also invest more time and expense.

Israel announces 10 month halt to settlement construction in West Bank

Wednesday, November 25, 2009

The prime minister of Israel, Binyamin Netanyahu, told a news conference earlier today that there will be a ten-month stop in the construction of new settlement housing in the West Bank. The Israeli cabinet approved the move by a margin of eleven to one.

“We have been told by our friends that once Israel takes the first meaningful steps towards peace, the Arab world and the Palestinians will follow,” said Netanyahu following the cabinet’s endorsement of the move. “Well, the government of Israel has taken a very big step towards peace today, and I hope the Palestinian and the Arab world will work with us to forge a new beginning for our children and theirs.”

The freeze was made “out of broad national interests with the aim of encouraging negotiations with our Palestinian neighbours,” he continued. “When the period of freeze ends my government will return to the previous policy of building in Judea and Samaria [the Jewish name for the West Bank].”

“This is a far-reaching and painful step […] We hope that this decision will help launch meaningful negotiations to reach an historic peace agreement that will finally end the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians,” Netanyahu later said.

Under the plan, construction permits for new residential buildings would be put on hold for ten months. The government said that “natural growth” — characterised by the construction of homes by young people, who were raised in the settlements and want to build houses for their own families — would be exempt from the freeze. Parts of the West Bank that Israel annexed to the Jerusalem municipality would also be excluded from the freeze. The building of schools and places of worship, which will enable settlers to live what Netanyahu described as “normal lives”, will also continue.

“We will not halt existing construction and we will continue to build synagogues, schools, kindergartens and public buildings essential for normal life in the settlements,” he commented.

The prime minister added that there would be no change to Israel’s existing policy on the issue of Jerusalem. “Regarding Jerusalem, our sovereign capital, our position is well-known. We do not put any restrictions on building in our sovereign capital,” he said.

Several members of the Israeli cabinet expressed their disapproval at the proposal, with the conservative, ultra-Orthodox Shas party boycotting the cabinet meetings.

“I think it’s a complete crumbling of Netanyahu’s position and is contrary to all of his electoral promises. He promised an end to unilateral steps, and here we see him after only a few months in office giving up, even though there is no reciprocity from the Palestinians,” said the head of the main settler lobby, Danny Dayan, to the Christian Science Monitor. We are 300,000 citizens, living in 150 communities. It is impossible to freeze us. I don’t how it will happen, but we will break this freeze.”

Many Palestinians also criticised the proposal, mainly because East Jerusalem was not included in the settlement freeze. Nabil Abu Rudeineh, a Palestinian spokesman, said to the Wafa news agency that Palestine “rejects returning to peace talks without the complete cessation of settlement activities in the West Bank and Jerusalem.”

Palestinian prime minister Salam Fayyad also rejected the plan. “The exclusion of east Jerusalem is a very, very serious problem for us. We are not looking for the resumption of the process just for the sake of it, for it to falter a week or two down the road,”

Israel captured East Jerusalem from Jordanian control, following Israel’s victory in the 1967 Arab-Israeli War. The Jewish state annexed that part of the city in a move that was not recognized by the international community.

Earlier this week, on a visit to Argentina, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas stepped up his campaign to put international pressure on Israel to stop building on lands that Palestinians say are their own. Abbas urged US president Barack Obama, as well as leaders of other nations that support Israel, to press the Jewish state to end its construction of settlements on occupied lands.

Netanyahu has in the past offered to restrain settlement growth, but today’s announcement was the first time that he set a clear timeframe.
